Mark of Five is about a feature of some of my favorite pieces of music. It often appears in the classical genre, in which a powerful 5-note 'lick' is played before a reprise or reiteration of the main theme of the song. I love the way these sound. This song is dedicated to capturing that idea while including the Mark of Five itself.

Dragon's Hiraeth is an advanced 4-mallet 5.0 octave marimba solo aimed at players with experience in several techniques (mallet independence, one-handed rolls, etc.). Hiraeth is Welsh and refers to a longing for a home. This piece is about a dragon's journey to find one, marked with some distinct sections. Finally, the recurring motif of 'spiraling' interrupts the progress of the journey. Will you make it home?
